We’re looking for entry-level and mid-level Crew Chiefs (Levels 1-3) to join our specialty “not your typical surveying” Industrial Measurement Division (IMD). This team performs state-of-the-art industrial surveying for an array of diverse clients from high-tech, manufacturing and fabrication facilities, to the marine industry.
As an Crew Chief, you will mentor other IMD staff while working on a variety of challenging projects. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute at a high level within a company culture that supports work / life balance.
Available positions based in Arizona (Mesa), Idaho (Boise), Oregon (Tigard). Oregon position requires travel to Arizona and Idaho as needed.
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as an Instrument Technician, field procedures for data collection, and crew support.
- Intermediate skills in construction layout, calculations, and as-built surveying.
- Intermediate skills using survey equipment and software including survey instruments, data collectors, electronic levels, and 3D scanners.
- Demonstrated history of careful implementation of QA procedures.
- Detailed and legible note-keeping techniques.
- A genuine aptitude for geometry, problem-solving, and prior experience in precise surveying / measurement would be of great value. Some experience with AutoCAD would be valuable.
- Ability to be badged for work in sensitive/restricted areas (i.e., drug testing, background screening).
- A valid driver’s license (a valid state-issued license is required at time of hire).
- Ability to work extended hours (schedule occasionally requires 10-hour shift and/or Saturday work).
- Availability for travel within the United States and/or overseas.

Typical responsibilities will include:
- Coordination of field work for a variety of projects, including high profile and confidential projects
- Maintaining safety standards and site safety protocol

The ideal candidate will offer:
- A minimum of 4 years surveying experience with topographic mapping, boundary resolution, subdivision platting, Records of Survey, and heavy construction projects;
- Experience surveying for site development (residential, retail, commercial, industrial), transportation, and utilities;
- Skills including research for maps and deeds, ALTA/NSPS surveys, ROW surveys, design surveys, land development, topographic surveys, platting, and construction staking;
- Knowledge of principles of boundary control, map preparation, and land surveying techniques;
- Knowledge of Oregon laws and regulations related to land surveying;
- Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil, GPS (Trimble Business Center, Trimble Access field software, Trimble R8 GNSS equipment) and CORS network;
- Proficiently with cadastral section breakdown calculations, and with AutoCAD Civil 3D;
- Strong organizational and writing skills, as well as project management skills;
- Ability to manage and coordinate survey technicians and field personnel work activities;
- Ability to take on responsibilities of CAD drafting, calculations, estimating, proposal preparation, and budgeting tasks;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills including willingness to network with clients and survey colleagues;
- Ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
- A high level of production ability, along with a strong work ethic and sense of professional integrity;
- A 4-year or 2-year degree/certification in Geomatics/Land Surveying, Geography, or related/relevant field;
- A current Professional Land Surveying License is required (Oregon preferred/ability to obtain Oregon license).
Typical Responsibilities include:
- Using AutoCAD Civil 3D, prepares a variety of survey documents including boundary surveys, Records of Survey, exhibits, subdivision plats, and topographic maps (including ground models/property features);
- Reduces field data using Trimble Business Center and imports data/exports data for field work through AutoCAD Civil 3D;
- Performs office calculations;
- Prepares legal descriptions of real property;
- Directs survey field crew work and performs field work (as needed);
- Supports field crew as needed for monumentation and/or construction staking.
