Serving the Future of Marine Science

At WCI, we take pride in our commitment to advancing marine science and exploration. Our Industrial Measurement Division (IMD) supports some of the most impressive research vessels in the world, including the University of Alaska’s R/V Sikuliaq, the University of Washington’s R/V Thomas G. Thompson and R/V Rachael Carson, and the University of California San Diego’s R/V Sally Ride and R/V Roger Revelle. These vessels are at the forefront of marine research, and we are honored to play a role in their groundbreaking missions.

Recently, some of our staff traveled to Alaska to facilitate a thorough 3D ship scan survey of the R/V Sikuliaq. This research vessel, operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks, is part of the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) fleet. The R/V Sikuliaq supports studies in climate science, oceanography, geology, and marine biology in the polar regions.

The University of Washington’s R/V Thomas G. Thompson and R/V Rachel Carson provide platforms for scientists and students to conduct experiments and gather data on oceanic and atmospheric conditions. Our IMD team recently conducted a 3D ship survey to re-establish both vessels’ angular information for their scientific and navigational equipment.

The R/V Sally Ride and R/V Roger Revelle, operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego, support a wide range of scientific research activities in the world’s oceans. Our team provided extensive alignment surveys to support new navigational and oceanographic systems, helping to ensure the reliability and accuracy required in the demanding environments these ships operate in.

At Westlake, we’re proud to support the marine science community, and look forward to continuing our support for these vital research missions. We recognize the importance of marine science for the health of our planet and the well-being of future generations.
