SINCE 1983.
Working closely with Willamette West Habitat for Humanity since 2015, Alder Commons, an 8-lot single-family subdivision in Hillsboro, Oregon, is nearing completion and move-in for residents as of summer 2023.
Westlake provided land use planning including initial coordination with the architect for the Design Review Application as well as assistance in finalizing the submittal package. Planning tasks included research for zoning, easements, and land use approvals, and consulting for due diligence.
Initial surveying services included an ALTA survey, a topographic site survey with boundary resolution and a Record of Survey. Westlake also provided construction staking services.
Westlake was contracted for a variety of additional work as this project continued to develop. Our engineering department provided full engineering services including preliminary design, permitting assistance, construction documents, as-builts, and project closeout. Our planning department also worked on the final plat plan and land use design review. Our surveying department assisted these continued efforts, performing a final plat survey and construction staking in support of the home buildings on-site.
Westlake has partnered with Willamette West Habitat for Humanity on four other projects in Washington County since 2015.
The final development features four 3-bedroom units and four 4-bedroom unit two story homes with single car garages. The homes are a few blocks in either direction from MAX and TriMet stations, and in close proximity to both the Shute Park Library, and the Hillsboro Aquatic and Rec Center. Habitat for Humanity has ensured that these homes will remain affordable in perpetuity, and that homeowners will be able to build equity in the homes, while ensuring that they are still affordable to future buyers. The development also features Earth Advantage Platinum Energy efficiency certification and single car garages for every unit. Alder Commons is in range of local schools at every level: Witch Hazel Elementary (K-6); South Meadows Middle School (7-8); Hillsboro Highschool (9-12).
* In 2021, the Habitat for Humanity Willamette West chapter merged with the Portland Metro East chapter to form Habitat for Humanity – Portland Region.
Westlake Consultants appreciates the challenges faced by nonprofits and has been a valuable partner to Willamette West Habitat for Humanity in providing homeownership opportunities to families in need of decent, affordable housing.”
