Westlake Principals & Directors

Established in 1983, Westlake has grown from a small consulting firm to an established and trusted source for Civil Engineering, Surveying and Land Use Planning. The goal of founding principals Judi Haney and Len Schelsky was to establish a firm which offered an exceptional level of collaboration and responsive service. They knew that creativity and innovation, coupled with solid expertise and good communication, would create a valuable experience for clients.

This commitment to quality assurance and control allowed us to develop into a highly-capable firm of committed professionals, dedicated to enacting Westlake’s Mission: To elevate the experience of staff and clients by continually striving to improve and innovate our services, and our own expertise. We join state-of-the-art technologies with responsive service, to help our clients achieve their objectives and ‘begin with the end in mind.’

We believe that the commitment we maintain toward each other results in better service to our clients. Westlake culture reflects:

Since our founding, our intent has been to foster an atmosphere where every person feels respected and valued – where our actions are guided by empathy, understanding, and the desire for positive change. The Westlake leadership team is committed to seeking ways to foster equity, justice, and fairness in our firm and within the greater A/E/C community. 

We show our commitment in a number of ways including:

  • Donations to nonprofits working with underserved communities and to groups supporting education and youth development.
  • Outreach and recruiting efforts to attract and hire talented individuals from all backgrounds by posting job opportunities to platforms focused on members with diverse backgrounds (gender, race, cultural, sexual orientation) as well as to conventional hiring sites.
  • Purchasing goods and services from locally-owned small businesses when possible.
  • Engaging and teaming with minority and women-owned firms when possible.

Westlake’s commitment to teamwork is extended into the community through our corporate giving program. We proudly support The Oregon Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity Portland Region, and Northwest Housing Alternatives, among other rotating organizations chosen by our staff including Project 48, JOIN, and the Family Justice Center of Washington County.

Westlake Consultants, Inc. is federally-registered small business enterprise (SBE). As such, we can often assist clients with Corporate Responsibility goals.
