Ship Component Laser Scanning for Hull Deformation Analysis

Westlake has had the opportunity to support U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) operations with 3D laser scanning for several Island Class 110′ Patrol Boats, both for the USCG directly and for shipyards under USCG contract.

For one recent project, Westlake’s scanning crew traveled to Alaska to scan the USCGC ‘Mustang’. Our objective was to collect data pertaining to the hull, deck, shaft and shaft struts, and other ship components. Data from 28 scans provided information to be analyzed for deformation analysis and possible modification of the vessel design.

Island Class Patrol Boats, which are named for U.S. islands, have an excellent range and sea-keeping capabilities. They are used for patrol in U.S. waters, as well as in the Persian Gulf in support of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.

Client Testimonial

I wanted to compliment you on your cad files. These files were the cleanest I have worked with in a long time. I see a lot of files from Engineers (200+ jobs a year)  and your files were very nice to work with. I appreciate an engineering firm that takes the time to pay attention to their product.”
