Beginning in 2013, Westlake provided surveying and civil engineering support throughout design and construction for three separate projects located on the adjacent Porsche and Audi properties in Beaverton, Oregon. The project team took on the expansion of the existing Audi dealership to create a new service center, a new Audi dealership, and a new Porsche dealership.
The site presented unique challenges: The southwest corner of the site was encumbered by a 100-year floodplain and floodway. No development was allowed within the floodway, and site grading work within the floodplain needed a balanced cut and fill. Westlake’s Civil Engineering team supported LRS Architects and Perlo Construction in these efforts through multiple iterations of complex flood volume calculation to maintain flood storage capabilities and elevation despite conflicting design parameters. For the Porsche dealership facility, the innovative design by LRS allowed for floodwater to pass underneath the 35,000 SQFT building. Westlake created a design modification for the existing storm system, as well as new parking areas.
Work was performed for three separate clients (Sunset Imports, LRS Architects, and Perlo Construction). Throughout different phases of each project, it was crucial for Westlake to collaborate closely with contractors as well as coordinate with the City of Beaverton, Oregon Department of Transportation, the Owner, and the overall project team.
The 20,000 SQFT Audi Beaverton facility, with its curved wall system to evoke the banked surface of a race track, was completed in 2015. Construction of the Sunset Porsche dealership wrapped up in late 2016. Other services provided by Westlake included topographic surveying for all three project areas, and construction surveying for the new Audi building.
The Porsche dealership was recognized as a 2017 ‘Top Project’ by the Portland Daily Journal of Commerce It also includes water and energy saving technologies and utilizes recycled materials. A short video showing the construction site can be seen here, courtesy of Sunset Imports.
We were impressed by the quality of work and the deliverable schedule. Please pass on my appreciation to the project team. If you need a reference for future projects, I would be glad to give your firm one.”
