Clatsop Community College (CCC) will be looking to expand in the future with a new state-of-the-art Maritime Science Building at its Marine and Environmental Research Training Station (MERTS) campus in Astoria. This potential addition to the campus is part of the college’s overall effort to expand its coastal educational program and to help it grow into one of the most comprehensive industrial and marine technology centers in the Pacific Northwest. SRG Partnership provided architectural design for the prospective facility with a creative design evoking the feeling of a real working ship through the use of exposed steel and mass timber. Situated adjacent to the Columbia River, the 15,500 sq. ft. building is intended to include classrooms, labs, offices, and conference space while serving as the arrival point for people visiting the campus.

Westlake began assisting SRG Partnership in 2018 by providing a due diligence analysis and review of the existing Master Plan, as well as an analysis of the Tsunami Inundation Zone. In 2019, our civil engineering team started on design for the proposed facility, providing preliminary schematic design through construction documents. Additionally, we contracted directly with Clatsop Community College to provide land surveying including topographic surveys of the MERTS campus and adjacent Liberty Lane to assist with campus access road improvements.

(Construction for this project is currently on hold).
