The City of Tigard has made significant investments in various projects within the downtown corridor, geared towards enhancing the pedestrian experience, optimizing traffic flow, and improving the overall aesthetics of Main Street. This comprehensive project prioritized safety and traffic concerns on Main Street, implementing a safe depressed grade on the North Eastbound side at key intersections such as Tigard Street, Commercial St., and Scoffins St. The primary goal was to create a more secure and intuitive environment for cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists.
Beyond addressing safety and traffic issues, the project also focused on elevating the pedestrian experience through enhancements, including sidewalk furniture, landscaping, pavement and sidewalk reconstructions, and waterline upgrades. Additionally, traffic flow improvements were implemented to streamline travel for all modes of transportation.
The revitalized Main Street now has increased on-street parking, wider sidewalks, and ADA-compliant sidewalk crossings, ensuring accessibility for pedestrians of all abilities. The introduction of new and improved bus stops with enhanced visibility, shelters, and dedicated loading zones contributes to the smooth flow of traffic along Main Street.
WCI played a crucial role in this transformative Phase 2 project, providing Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) with our survey work to support reconstruction design for SW Main St. We provided pre-design and pre-construction surveys, easement descriptions, and additional topographic surveying as a subconsultant to the City’s contracted design engineering firm, Century West.
The result is a Main Street that not only meets but exceeds the community’s expectations, creating a safer, more accessible, and aesthetically pleasing urban space for everyone to enjoy.
Westlake exceeded our expectations, particulary in respect to timely delivery of work products. Your staff was available, committed, and willing to do what it took to get deliverables in on time. You made our job easier by being flexible on short notice.”
