In preparation for the 500+ elite track and field athletes arriving in Portland for the 2016 World Indoor Track and Field Championship, Westlake provided 3D laser scanning and industrial measurement services to ensure precise placement and alignment of the competition track and the practice track inside the Oregon Convention Center (OCC). On a tight timeline, Westlake worked closely with the event’s presenter, TrackTown USA, as well as the entire design and support team, OCC staff, and the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) to help turn the Oregon Convention Center into a world-class indoor stadium for 39,000+ spectators attending the events.
Working around events scheduled at the OCC, we performed 3D laser scanning throughout the Exhibit Halls and public spaces, covering approximately 255,000 square feet. Much of this work was performed in the overnight hours. Scan data was then modeled in Revit for use by the architectural team for the planning and design of the temporary IAAF track and seating installations.
Westlake also produced high-tolerance floor as-builts for the track and stand vendors, as well as precision measurement services for the physical layout and alignment of the competition track, the warm up track, and spectator seating with a positional accuracy +/- 1/8.”
The Oregon Convention Center will use the existing conditions data collected for the public spaces as a tool for future event planning, construction, and installations.
” I highly recommend Westlake Consultants to provide whatever kind of survey support is needed.”
