Under contract to Tualatin Valley Water District, Westlake provided a topographic survey to assist with the preliminary engineering design of a water mainline replacement in the Todd Street and Linda Lane neighborhood of Beaverton, Oregon. This project also required resolution of right-of-way along the 5,000 feet of water main infrastructure serving the area. The updates the project will implement are a substantial investment into the water infrastructure of the area, all funded through regular water bill payments.
The project will replace aging 4 and 6-inch water mains with 8-inch zinc-coated mainlines. This updated material will improve the reliability of the area’s water infrastructure, as well as increasing protection in case of a fire due to zinc’s increased fire resistance. The replacement became necessary due to decay of the existing mainline infrastructure, and risk of malfunction and leakage. These zinc-coated pipes will also provide greater corrosion resistance of the new mainline, increasing the longevity of the new infrastructure, and reducing the need for future updates.
As the survey was in a neighborhood with older infrastructure, Westlake crews worked within narrow streets with limited sight lines. Water meters are typically placed in offset fashion in older neighborhoods, which necessitates clear communication between our crews, the Client, and homeowners throughout the surveying process to ensure the process is properly explained, and that homeowners’ day-to-day routines are impacted as little as possible. The area Westlake surveyed encompassed the frontages of 70 homes.
Westlake completed the survey on-time and on-budget. Construction dates are to be determined and work is expected to take six months to complete.
Westlake is always willing and happy to come in and help figure out the best approach. They provide quick turn around and are always responsive to questions.”
