Westlake has assisted with the construction of Portland Community College’s Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center (OMIC) in Scappoose since 2018. The $28.6 million facility opened in the fall of 2021 and offers manufacturing-related training and apprenticeship programs that simulate real work environments.
The OMIC Training Center is situated in the center of the 17-acre campus and includes spaces for machining, welding, mechatronics, programming, and computer numerically controlled operation. The building was designed to optimize natural light through the use of large open spaces, extra wide hallways, and classrooms with large windows. The facility is certified LEED Silver and has many sustainable elements including onsite stormwater management and a rooftop solar array to offset the 100% electric-powered facility. The project won 3rd Place in the Secondary Education category in the Daily Journal of Commerce’s “2021 Top Projects” awards. The contest recognizes the best projects constructed in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Westlake first provided consulting surveying services to support PCC with due diligence research as well as an ALTA/NSPS survey. Westlake also provided, as a sub-consultant to Mortenson Construction, surveying services for building grids, benchmarks and site easements. Our most recent work was assisting the Zavala Corporation with slab pre-pour, post-pour, and as-built surveys.
“Westlake’s attention to detail and quality of work has been a key contribution to the success of past projects with their involvement.”
