This is a great annual reminder to get out into your community and give back. Here at Westlake we value philanthropy and volunteering, and want to take this opportunity to share our values as a company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>What is Westlake\u2019s volunteering philosophy?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1983, when Westlake was founded, our principals introduced a philosophy of shared success. As Westlake grows and thrives, we want to share that success with our neighbors, with an emphasis on providing support to non-profits working with underserved communities. This philosophy of practicing good stewardship is embodied in our <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/westlakeconsultants.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/WCI-Mission-Vision-Values.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"http:\/\/westlakeconsultants.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/WCI-Mission-Vision-Values.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Values Statement<\/a> and put into action through ongoing corporate giving to organizations like the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonfoodbank.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.oregonfoodbank.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oregon Food Bank<\/a>, and through employee-led giving initiatives that are selected by our staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year, Westlake works with our staff to draft a list of organizations to support, which employees then vote on. Employee led giving initiatives are conducted in December and June, and typically focus on support for families, those experiencing homelessness, and animal-related charities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Westlake is also supportive of staff&#8217;s regular volunteer efforts with professional and education organizations such as <a href=\"https:\/\/plso.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/plso.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon<\/a> (PLSO), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smps.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.smps.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Society for Marketing Professional Services<\/a> (SMPS), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcc.edu\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.pcc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Portland Community College<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oit.edu\/strategic-partnerships\/stem-partnership\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.oit.edu\/strategic-partnerships\/stem-partnership\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">South Metro-Salem STEM Partnership<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>What charity and volunteer work does Westlake have planned for 2023?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far in 2023, staff have participated in a mock interview event for high school students, given classroom presentations to Portland Community College classes, and presented at the annual PLSO convention. Engineering staff have joined a <a href=\"https:\/\/prosperportland.us\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/prosperportland.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prosper Portland<\/a> neighborhood action plan committee, and we will be continuing to volunteer for the Tigard \u201cAdopt A Street\u201d cleanup program, which we\u2019ve been doing several times a year since 2017.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are excited to again have a team participating in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lakeoswegolakerun.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/lakeoswegolakerun.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lake Run<\/a>, a fundraising walk\/run on May 6th to support <a href=\"https:\/\/nwhousing.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/nwhousing.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Northwest Housing Alternatives<\/a> programs. Friends and family members are invited to participate as well. It\u2019s not uncommon to hear some good-natured \u201ctrash talk\u201d in the office among the competitive runners on the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have employee-led charitable events on the calendar for June and December, and a staff favorite, the annual School Supply Drive to benefit a Tigard elementary school, is set for August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Volunteer activities WCI staff are<\/strong> <strong>participating in outside<\/strong> <strong>of the company\u2019s commitments include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Maggie Thornton (Business Development Manager) was a founding member and currently serves on the advisory board for <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theclackamasbookshelf.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.theclackamasbookshelf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Clackamas Bookshelf<\/a>, a non-profit that distributes free books to children with limited access. Additionally, they run a low-cost community bookstore.<\/li><li>Scott Sanders (CAD Designer) volunteers his time as a volleyball coach, coaching for Gervais High School, Kennedy High School, Canby High School, and currently <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nwelitevbc.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nwelitevbc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">NW Elite Volleyball Club<\/a> for the past several years.<\/li><li>Jacob Bibb (Project Engineer) recently worked with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/friendsoftrees.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/friendsoftrees.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Friends of Trees<\/a>, planting trees at the Saum Creek Trail with the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asceor.org\/portland-younger-member-forum\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.asceor.org\/portland-younger-member-forum\" target=\"_blank\">Portland Younger Members Forum of the ASCE.<\/a><\/li><li>Scott Zelenka (Project Engineer) and his family recently volunteered with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/arcasguatemala.org\/where-we-are\/arcas-guatemala-city\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/arcasguatemala.org\/where-we-are\/arcas-guatemala-city\/\" target=\"_blank\">ARCAS Guatemala<\/a>, cleaning large bird enclosures while traveling through South America.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April 16-22, 2023 is National Volunteer Week!
